Christmas is the most tempting time of the year but it doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Everything in moderation of course but here is six Christmas sides that are a healthier option to try this year.

Roast potatoes and Brussels sprouts are a popular Christmas side to enjoy as they are healthy and delicious. Brussels sprouts are low in calories but high in many nutrients including fibre, vitamin C and vitamin K.

Whole roasted cauliflower is the new craze to be served at any dinner party so be sure to add this to your Christmas menu. It is a great vegan alternative as its healthy ,lower in fat and very simple to make. Cauliflower contains a high amount of fibre, which is important for our digestive health

Spiced red cabbage is a colourful dish that will complement any festive main course. Red cabbage is packed with minerals and vitamins with one being vitamin C which leads to a healthy heart. If you have any leftovers drizzle with olive oil and serve with a piece of grilled meat or fish.

Sticky maple roots are a healthy side dish to have on the table this Christmas as they are even better made lightly caramelised and herby. Root veggies are especially rich in soluble and insoluble fibre, which helps to boost our gut health. These sticky maple roots are sure to go down a treat.

A simple cranberry sauce is crucial to accompany your Christmas meal. This tasty sauce is usually enjoyed over meat or veg and just waters in your mouth. Making your own sauce is really easy, and you can do it a few days ahead.

Healthy stuffing balls made with dried apricots and nuts is a healthy option as its low-fat yet full of flavour. Who said stuffing had to be unhealthy, you can enjoy this without feeling to guilty on Christmas Day.
