This weekend I went up to Birmingham. I was meant to be running the half marathon but due to being ill I have not been able to train properly since I ran London’s half, Run To The Beat http://www.runtothebeat.co.uk/ a month ago so had to pull out.
I went with my friend Dave who is amazing when it comes to running. He is a trained running coach and uses the bare foot running technique. Have you heard of bare foot running before? It’s when you absorb shock by landing lightly on your forefeet rather than on your heels have a read http://www.marathonandbeyond.com/choices/clift.htm Dave swears by it!
He booked three half marathon’s in three weeks and this was his final one. He pulled off 1 hour 22 mins in Cardiff last week which is sooooo quick!
The Birmingham half http://www.birminghamhalfmarathon.com/ is a big race, it has about 30,000 people running which is a lot. It takes you round the outskirts of the city and you end up finishing on Broad Street which was really busy with supporters. Dave got round in 1 hour and 26 mins, he was totally in the zone as he ran past us by the finish.
We had a result with the hotel we stayed in. Dave managed to get a deal on the City Inn so it was only £50 for the room. They have a free DVD library which is perfect if you are staying in before a race! http://www.cityinn.com/
So I’m going to be getting back out there running next week (at last)! I am doing a 10k back home in Richmond, Surrey in a month and then going to have to find a couple more halves to do after Christmas to make up for the two I’ve missed this month.
