We don’t need to work harder at eating healthy we just need to be smarter. Here is a few tips on keeping you fuller for longer which means you wont be so inclined to pick on naughty foods!
- Wetter the better!!!
The texture of food makes a big difference so boiled potatoes over potato chips (nearly four times as filling), a plate of vegetables wont be as filling as vegetables pulped and made into soup, fresh fruit over dried fruit – you get the idea.
- Choose a salad for a starter…
Fruit and veg don’t look that filing but because they contain lots of water, air and fibre they bulk out the stomach which makes it more uncomfortable to binge on fatty foods
- Go brown!
Rice, pasta, bread…. it all needs to be brown. Because as well as being better for you as it contains more fibre it takes the body longer to digest.
- Drink lots of water…
Sometimes you think you are hungry when you are actually thirsty, so make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Also if you drink a glass of water before you eat your meal it will help bulk you out so you don’t over eat.
- Little and often…
Yep that old chestnut! Make sure you eat a mid morn and a mid afternoon snack to help keep your sugar levels balanced, you’ll find you wont get so super hungry.
- Snooze or you lose!
When your body doesn’t get enough sleep it produces more ghrelin, which is a hormone that makes you hungry.
- Say no to fizzy drinks!
Your body doesn’t register calories you drink like it does with food so these are empty caleries L
- Plenty of protein…
Protein is the most filling of the food groups, it triggers the production of PYY, the “I am full hormone”. It also empties out the stomach slower – literally keeping you fuller for longer.
- Olive oil
Olive oil contains oleic acid which helps stall hunger pans.
